Saath has been working with various groups such as women, children and one of the largest group Saath works with is youth. Youth as a group, whether 15-24 years (according to the UN) or 15-35 years of age (acc to Government of India) face problems related to employment, health, sex, education, future prospects and all these along with the metamorphosis into an adult. In India youth are approximately 40% of the population. This figure is more than populations of some entire countries. In Ahmedabad according to the 2001 Census the population of slum dwellers was 4,519,278 ranking the city 7th of the 35 cities which had a slum population of more than 1 million. Taking 40% as a marker there are approximately 18, 07,711 youth spread across 1027 slums or chawls in Ahmedabad (Source: Census of India, 2001). These youth like others from across the world are growing up in a fast paced world within a currently unsteady economy. Globalisation, urbanisation, and migration are directly affecting their lives.
